FREE books for libraries. Now is the time to organize an activity, and contact librarians. Promotional material can be placed around your community anytime soon. This year National Home Education Week falls on the 6th to 12th May. This is the week before NSW Education Week, a couple of weeks before Queensland, and well before other state Education Weeks. It is unfortunately the same as the Victorian Education Week but we brought it forward to coincide with the promotion of the 2007 National Home Education Conference. It would be ideal to promote them both at the same time.

Promote Home Education in your local community by organizing an activity suitable and open to the general public and advertise in local community halls, preschools, churches, playgroups, libraries, and anywhere families might visit.

HEA has prepared a 2007 National Home Education Week poster and colour brochures introducing home schooling. These, as well as the 2007 National Home Education Conference poster and flyers, and HEA flyers are available for distribution. Contact the HEA office secretary@hea.asn.au for promotional material.

Libraries are an ideal place to promote home schooling. Ask your local librarian if you can set up a display for National Home Education Week. I have prepared a letter you might print off to give to your librarian (to authenticate National Home Education Week). The letter also offers to donate, from HEA on your behalf, some books on home schooling to the library for display during National Home Education Week.

HEA has prepared a library pack that includes two books for donation to libraries. The pack includes:
John Taylor Gatto’s (USA) ‘Dumbing Us Down’
Beverley Paine’s ‘Learning Without School’
Education Choices magazine back copy
Otherways magazine back copy
2007 Home Education Week poster
2007 National Home Education Conference poster and flyers
Introduction to Home Education brochures
HEA flyers.

These would be suitable for a display on home schooling. The Home Education Week poster has space for the location and date of your support group activity as well as details for contacting a spokesperson from your group. The books will have space for details about a contact person. Please contact the HEA office secretary@hea.asn.au for a library pack.
