Resources

Nepean Educational Specialists offer HEA members a 5% discount on their range of school and TAFE books, teachers resources, children's books and stationary.

www.iqtoys.au.com. Members of the HEA have been offered a 5% discount on all toys purchased from their online toy store. www.iqtoys.au.com specialise in educational toys and have an excellent range at already discounted prices

Pages and Pages bookstores. 10% discount with presentation of HEA membership card. Stores in Mosman and Belrose.Mail order is available to members who cannot purchase instore - just quote your HEA membership number to them over the phone.

Places to Go

Sydney Children's Museum. The Sydney Children's Museum Inc. offer HEA members the discount price of $5 per person entry, when their proof of membership is shown. Their address is corner Pitt and Walpole Sts. Merrylands 2160. Open 10am - 4pm. Ph 9897-1414.

Its a great museum for younger kids with lots of hands on - their motto is 'I Hear and I forget...I see and I remember.....I do and I understand'.

If anyone is interested in Family membership - this costs $55 a year with reciprocal visiting rights to Newcastle Regional Museum, Wollongong Science Centre, Questacon Camberra, Investigator Adelaide and Brisbane Science Centre.

Powerhouse Museum. FREE entry for all members. In order to obtain free entry, you must call the Museum (02 9217-0222) and book several days in advance, quoting our School Member number: K 19629. When you arrive at the Museum you will need to use the Member's Admission Desk, quote this member number and present your HEA membership card.

Summary of our entitlements at the Powerhouse Museum:

• free entry to the Powerhouse Museum (provided you book several days in advance, quoting HEA's School Member number: K 19629).
• substantial discounts on visit packages (museum staff take groups on theme based tours - see their website) to Powerhouse Museum.
• free entry to day-time visits to the Sydney Observatory (provided you book several days in advance, quoting HEA's School Member number: K 19629).
• substantial discounts on visit packages to Sydney Observatory.
• exclusive or preferential bookings for selected special school events at the Powerhouse Museum.

Special rates for Sydney Opera House guided tours. It will cost $5.35 for both school aged child and parent (rrp $10.60 conc, $15.40 full). Ph: 9250 7909

Members must show a membership card to obtain the discount, and there is no need to book a tour for individuals and small groups.

Guided tours run daily from 9.00am -5.00pm. There are Teachers kits available if required (which includes student notes and activity sheets available for $8 in the choice of the following: k-2, 3-6, Secondary, ESL. All kits come with a Sydney Opera House CD Rom which itself retails at $30.

Old Sydney Town are offering us their "school group" rate which is currently $8.00 per student. As individual families they can not offer the other services such as the model classroom or guided tours as these are structured as group activities. The minimum number of people for group purposes has been reduced for the HEA from 20 to 10. OST's normal policy is for adult supervisors / teachers of one free for each five paying students but in our case they have generously offered accompanying adults the same rate as the students (i.e. $8.00 per person. rrp: adult - $22, child - $13).

To qualify for these rates, visits need to be pre booked & affiliation with HEA needs to be identified. Person to speak to at OST - Paul Kiley (02) 4340 1104.

Sydney Aquarium are offering HEA members a discounted rate of $5.50 per child. They will also allow 1 adult free per 6 or 8 students, depending on the year of the students. (this may make it more feasible to get a group together).

Manly Aquarium. This is part of the Sydney Aquarium. See above.

Sovereign Hill, Ballarat. Members are eligible for the school concession by booking through the School Booking Officer, Christine Handley, Ph (03) 5337 1188, Fax (03) 5332 9168.

There are other activities such as education sessions, mine tours, etc. but these require a group booking with a min. of 15 people.

Maitland Gaol are offering HEA members entry at $5.50 per person on presentation of HEA membership card. Services include tours, functions, events, dinners, sleepovers. Ph: (02) 4936 6610.

Accommodation

Be Together Farm Stay. Holiday cottages, Bellingen, mid-north coast. Bee Together are offering HEA members a $50 discount for an off-season weekly booking.

There are two mud brick holiday cottages which each sleep 6. The already reasonable rate $500 for the off-season week is further reduced to $450 for HEA members who quote their membership number on booking and show their membership card on arrival. There are canoes, a great river and horse rides on the farm. Around the area are beaches, Coffs Harbour, Urunga, Nambucca Heads and Bellingen.
